"Saint Salaman vint au monde dans un lieu nomméCapersane sur les bords de lEuphrate. Dès quil eût fait dessein de tendre àla perfection chrétienne, il choisit la vie solitaire, mais la pratiqua dunemanière dont nul autre ne sétait encore avisé car il joignit à la solitude unsilence quil ne rompit jamais.LÉvêque du Diocèse instruit des merveilles desa vie, résolut de lui conférer le Sacerdoce, il fit faire une ouverture à sademeure pour y entrer. Il entretint longtemps le Saint sur les faveursparticulières que Dieu lui accordait; mais nayant pu tirer de lui une seuleparole, il sortit et fit reboucher louverture. Au bout de quelque temps, leshabitants du bourg où il était né passèrent lEuphrate et vinrent percer samaison pour lenlever. Il ne leur dit rien et, sans leur témoigner ni joie nirépugnance, il se laissa enlever et conduire de lautre côté; on lui bâtit unlogement semblable à celui quil avait quitté, on ly mena et on ly enferma.Il continua dy vivre dans un aussi grand silence quauparavant."

Solomon (or Salaman) the Silent or the Hesychast

"Saint Salaman was born in a place called Capersane on the banks of the Euphrates. As soon as he had intended to strive for Christian perfection, he chose a solitary life, but practiced it in a way that no other had thought of it again, for he added to solitude a silence which he never broke. He conversed with the Saint for a long time on the special favors that God was granting him, but having been unable to get a single word from him, he went out and had remise the opening stopped up. They crossed the Euphrates and came and broke through his house to take it away. He said nothing to them, and without showing them either joy or repugnance, he allowed himself to be carried away and led to the other side, where they built him a dwelling similar to the one that he had left, they took him there and locked him in. He continued to live there in s as great a silence as before."
